Osteopathic medicine is practiced by fully licensed U.S. physicians called DOs along side their counterparts, MDs. The main difference in training between the two professions is the emphasis on treating the whole patient and the cause of their illness or disease along with manual medicine, Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM).
Osteopathic physicians are licensed to prescribe the full spectrum of western medicine as well as any of the alternative medicines in which they are trained such as homeopathy, acupuncture, supplements and herbal remedies.
