Once upon a time, Dr. McCaffrey encountered a patient who had been in a car accident.  The patient refused medications.  With nothing else to turn to, Dr. McCaffrey used her osteopathic manipulative medicine to treat the patient's neck and back.  The patient's pain decreased right away. Surprised and delighted that her training had worked so well,  she opened an osteopathic practice in Arcata, California in 2003.

In June of 2007 she traveled to the Bay Area to take a teaching position at an osteopathic medical school in hopes of training young physicians in osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM).  What she found was a fantastic training on campus but a lacking clinical OMM experience for the medical students.  In an effort to re-grow the clinical side of osteopathy within the profession, she set about establishing a training site for the medical students in Humboldt County and re-joined them in 2009 as their Medical Director.  She currently teaches Osteopathic Medicine Rounds several times a month, mentoring the medical students to treat low income and un-insured patients.  She also trains the students in her office in McKinleyville.
